Hi, I’m Sammy!
I’m Samantha Quilliam, a Canberra-based designer who creates visually compelling, user-focused solutions that balances creativity with functionality.
My services
-
I create cohesive visual identities that scale from a logo refresh through to a full design system with guidelines your team can actually use.
This can include:
Visual identity design or refresh (logo suite, colour, typography, visual elements)
Design systems & guidelines (components, usage rules, templates)
Accessibility-informed brand decisions (contrast, hierarchy, readability)
-
I design intuitive, user-centred digital experiences, especially where the content or information architecture is complex and findability, clarity and cohesion are critical.
This can include:
Discovery support (user needs, journeys, content flows, IA)
Wireframes and high-fidelity UI (responsive, component-led)
Prototyping, usability testing support, and iteration cycles
-
I turn complex information into content people can actually absorb with layouts and compositions that support the messaging not distract from it.
This can include:
One-pagers, factsheets, report layouts
Infographics, diagrams and information visualisation
Campaign assets and digital content (web tiles, social graphics)
Content structure and visual storytelling
-
When teams need to develop communications fast, templates make the difference. I build polished, on-brand presentations and reusable assets that are easy to maintain.
This can include:
Document, slide decks and presentation templates
Template libraries and “how to use” guidance
My process
-
I will gather research to align on the problem, audience, and what success looks like.
-
I translate what I’ve learnt into a clear requirements and priorities with a direction, plan and inspiration to shape the solution.
-
This is where ideas become real. I will develop concepts and iterate on designs with quick feedback loops.
-
I package everything so it’s easy to use and maintain, from detailed style guides your team can run with to developer-ready handover notes.
Why I love what I do
I love the moment when everything clicks, the brand, the visuals, and the user experience all aligning into something cohesive, effective and beautiful. I’m especially passionate about developing designs where my work make a real positive difference, like turning complex information into accessible visuals and intuitive experiences that people can understand and trust.
Looking back, I’ve always loved the mix of digital and creativity. I grew up playing video games, making art, and jumping at any chance to perform in school musicals or at karaoke with friends. My design career began as a happy accident when I chose graphic design as a high school elective. It quickly became my favourite subject and led me to studying a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication), with a breadth major in Marketing Communication, at the University of Canberra.
Some of my biggest lessons came from doing the work in the real world. I worked at Officeworks in the Print & Copy department, learning the fundamentals of file formatting, production and print. In my second-last year of university, I interned within the Creative Design team at Services Australia, where I sharpened my Adobe skills, strengthened my process, and learned how to design with stakeholders and constraints in mind.
Now, with 5+ years’ experience and my role as a Consultant at Cordelta since 2022, I’ve worked across high-profile government initiatives, including Australia’s first Data and Digital Government Strategy, the country’s most-used government platform myGov, and other major projects you’ll find throughout my portfolio.
